Adviser to the board Jürgen Schwiezer
Jürgen Schwiezer was CEO of the Roche healthcare group’s diagnostics division from January 2008 to December 2009. After a doctorate in chemistry, Schwiezer started working as a market researcher at the German pharmaceutical drugs manufacturer Boehringer Mannheim. From 1989 to 1990, he ran the company’s domestic sales force, and went on to lead the laboratory systems business.
In 1994, Schwiezer was appointed head of Boehringer’s German sales organization and joined the executive board, whose chairman he became the following year. In 1997, the firm was acquired by Roche and renamed Roche Diagnostics GmbH. As the latter’s vice chairman, Schwiezer was assigned to the board of Roche’s German holding company in 1998, taking charge of the diagnostics business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In 2000, Schwiezer became chairman of the executive board of Roche Diagnostics GmbH. Still overseeing the EMEA region, he also assumed responsibility for the group’s Latin American diagnostics operations in 2007.
