I have often been asked why I opted out of my academic career. The answer is, things move too slowly in the scientific community for my liking. At Consileon, by contrast, I think I have matured tremendously in professional, social as well as intellectual terms over the last six years.
A key driver of that progress has been our corporate culture. Consileans take on responsibility right from the start, are unafraid of difficult assignments and can be deployed flexibly. What makes all of that possible is the certainty that we have the collective know-how of our company at our disposal. The reserve or resentment which prevails in many organizations between business and IT is unknown to us.
My first project at Consileon comprised the development of a complex web application. At present, I am designing an IT infrastructure for a major financial services provider. What I like most about projects like these is that they involve technical as well as industry and methodological challenges. As external consultants, we often get to solve more interesting issues than the client’s own staff. I also appreciate that I do not have to tie myself down to working either as project leader or specialist at Consileon. A career marked out ten years ahead would be a nightmare to me.
